Remote Instructions

Below are the instructions to program your new remote. These instructions apply to remotes that look like the image to the right. If this is not your remote, select from the others here.

Step 1: Retrieving the Gateway ID

  1. Press the SETUP/MENU button on the front panel of the Gateway. (This is the wrench button and the menu will show up on the main TV)
  2. Scroll down using the arrow key on the front panel of the Gateway to REMOTE CONTROL SETUP
  3. Press SELECT on the front of Gateway (circle with check mark).
  4. Press PPV on an exsiting digital TV remote..
  5. Please make a note of the 3 digit Gateway ID # _ _ _ you will need this number in step 3.
  6. Press EXIT on the front of the Gateway to back out of the current mode (square with an X mark).

Step 2: Go to tv for which you are programming and using remote.

Step 3: Setting your remote to the existing Gateway ID

  1. Press and continue to hold the B key until the red light flashes. Release the B key.
  2. Enter the following three-key sequence: 7-8-9. The red light remains lit.
  3. The remote is now in programming mode. Enter the 3-digit Gateway ID. You must enter all three numbers even if it begins with zeros.
  4. If you entered the Gateway ID correctly, the following occurs: The red light flashes three times and remains off. If you did not enter the Gateway ID correctly, the red light does not flash. It remains off. Return to Step 4.

Step 4: Setting the Remote Control ID

  1. On your remote, press and continue to hold the A key until the red light flashes. Release the A key.
  2. Enter the following three-key sequence: 7-8-9. If the red light on the top of the front side of the remote is on, continue with the next step.
  3. Enter the single digit remote control ID:
    Remote Control ID #0 Operates the TV in the same room as Gateway. The remote is set to operate in the IR (infrared) mode. Change channels by pointing remote at the Gateway. Turn TV on or off by pointing remote at TV.)
    Remote Control ID #1 Operates remote TV1, a TV in a different room than Gateway. Point remote in general direction of TV to turn TV on or off and to change channels.
    Remote Control ID #2 Operates remote TV2
    Remote Control ID #3 Operates remote TV3

Step 5: Programming the TV Code (Allows the remote to control your TV)

The TV Code is a specific code for each brand and model of TV. When a TV Code is set, the remote control is able to address the specific signaling requirements for that TV.

  1. Turn TV on any channel.
  2. Press and continue to hold the MUTE button on the remote until the red light flashes rapidly. Release the mute key.
  3. Press the green POWER button. The red light will light up and remain solidly lit.
  4. While pointing at the TV, continuously press (don’t hold) the UP arrow. By doing this your remote is scanning through all the TV codes. Some TV’s may take longer to scan than others. When you reach the correct TV code the TV will automatically turn off. NOTE: The red light will rapidly flash once you have scanned through all codes.
  5. Press the SELECT button to store the TV Code. The red light on the remote will flash rapidly, then stop, indicating that the TV Code has been stored.
  6. You may now press the POWER button to turn the TV on.

NOTE: If you press the UP arrow too rapidly, you may pass the TV Code before the time the TV turns off. If you are not sure you are storing the correct TV Code, press the down arrow slowly to cycle back through the codes that have been previously scanned.

>>> These procedures need to be followed for each remote you use with the Residential Gateway.
>>> Make sure your TV set stays on the channel listed on the back of the remote.
