Using the Spam Filtering and Account Management Center

This is a tutorial to help you become familiar with Spam Filtering – how it works and what options you have. It will also explain the benefits of our new Account Management Center which will allow you to check online time, change your password, flush large emails, and check website usage. To access the Spam Filtering and the Account Management Center, you must first login to Santel’s Webmail program.

Login instructions
To log in to your Webmail, open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, and type the URL into the address bar. The correct address is webmail.santel.net. Click Enter and when the page opens you will be greeted by the login screen for Webmail.  You can also access this login by going to www.santel.net and clicking on the Santel Webmail icon located on the right side of the homepage. You may wish to bookmark this log in page to your Favorites for later use.  Type your full email address into the field labeled E-Mail, and type your password into the Password field, then click the Connect button. (Be sure your email address and password are all lowercase letters.)

Email Filter
Once you’ve logged into the Webmail, you will notice an option in the lower left corner called Email Filter. Click on the filter to view all emails which have been quarantined because they were determined to be either junk mail or potential viruses. You can review these emails and either delete them or mark them to be sent through to your inbox. Simply place a checkmark next to the selected email(s) and click Deliver or Remove at the bottom of the list. There is an option to Select All if you wish to clear out all of the quarantined messages.  If you don’t wish to review these messages, they are stored for a period of 14 days, after which time the system will automatically delete them.

Junk Email Settings
Click on this link to adjust the settings in your mail filters. To help control which emails are filtered and which you will receive, you can adjust the level of aggressiveness. You will see four categories of junk mail and you are given the option to make the filter more lenient or more aggressive for each category. You can adjust these settings at any time. You will also see options to set up lists of Approved Senders or Blocked Senders. You can specifically tell the system to allow all messages sent from any email address or domain to avoid missing any important messages. You can also block any domains from which you don’t want to receive messages, regardless of content or subject.

Virus Settings
Clicking on this link will allow you to choose how often our system notifies you of quarantined emails which may contain a virus.  You can choose to receive a message immediately after an email is quarantined, once per day if an email is quarantined, or never.  If you don’t change this setting, it will default to the current Santel settings.

Wireless Settings
This option will allow you to have messages forwarded to your cell phone via text message if your cell phone service allows this service. There are step-by-step instructions for determining how/when the messages are sent.

Account Management Center
Once you’ve logged into Webmail, to access the AMC, you will click on the link located in the lower left corner. You will be taken to the AMC announcement page and given a menu of options.

  • Spam Control – allows you to review and change your quarantined junk mail and the control settings of the filter. See instructions above.
