CHARACTER COUNTS!

The Sanborn Central School District is proud to be a member of the CHARACTER COUNTS!SM Coalition. The purpose of this coalition is to energize the lives of our young people with ethics based on what the coalition calls the "Six Pillars of CharacterSM."

Six Pillars of Character
  • Trustworthiness
  • Respect
  • Responsibility
  • Fairness
  • Caring
  • Citizenship

One of the Six Pillars of Character is emphasized each month during the school year. Additionally, a character keyword (such as honesty, courage, manners, accountability) is featured each week. Activities are based around these themes on a continual basis throughout the school year.

Students are recognized for showing the particular characteristic of that month. Teachers nominate students during the month for showing the designated character. All nominated students are then recognized at a monthly assembly of the student body. First, second and third place names are drawn from the pool of nominated students and they receive various prizes, from a Rebel cup and pencil to a t-shirt that says "My Character Counts at Sanborn Central."

To learn more about the CHARACTER COUNTS! program, visit their website at: www.charactercounts.org.

CHARACTER COUNTS! and the Six Pillars of Character are service marks of the CHARACTER COUNTS! Coalition, projects of the Josephson Institute of Ethics.
