Philosophy of Homework
I believe that homework is an essential part of the learning process. Post secondary education will require that the student have the ability to complete assignments outside of the classroom, on the student's own time, while managing other commitments and responsibilities. In addition, more and more occupations with the development of enhanced technology, are requiring employees to complete or finish work projects outside of the normal work day. However, I realize the modern day student has many obligations. It is with this realization in mind, that I will try and limit homework to one or two nights a week, never exceeding two nights per week provided the student uses class time wisely. Students will almost always be given time to start assignments in class and in many instances with focused work, they should complete the majority of the assignment in class.
Grading Policy
Students will be given many opportunities to demonstrate the knowledge they have learned over the course of the unit. Projects, tests, homework, and class discussions will be used to grade the student. See the student handbook for the grading percentages and grading policy. Please also see the course syllabus to see late-work policy and other grade related items.
Schedule
See High School Class Schedule.
Contact Information
Since I coach a majority of the year, the best time to contact me is from 7:30 - 8:00 each morning or by e-mail at David.Steele@k12.sd.us. My cell phone is currently a long distance number. I will provide a local cell phone number to all classes as soon as I receive one if you need to contact me outside the school day.
