Philosophy of Art Education
I believe that students should have an opportunity to dream, believe and achieve in a safe nurturing environment. All children can learn. All have different learning styles and learn at different paces.

Art education provides students with the opportunity to develop higher thinking skills and organize problem-solving skills. Art teaches cultural and global awareness, imagery learning, verbal and non-verbal communication and other skills that students can use daily to reach their potential.

Classes Taught

I teach Art to Grades K-5 in the classroom. The 7th and 8th grade and the high school Art One classes are taught on the SIVN or the DDN, and every fifth or sixth day are held in the classroom at Sanborn Central. Kindergarten through 5th grades are taught a basic introduction to art media and concepts.

Grading Criteria

Art projects are worth 20 points each, homework 10 points, class work 10 points, and their sketchbook 20 points. Projects are graded first by the student using an art rubric and then by the teacher. The semester grade will consist of the total points accumulated related to the number of points possible. These will be averaged into percentages using the school policy for letter grades.
