As I sit here and think about what to write about for this year’s Christmas letter, I think how easy it is to TALK about our family, but how difficult it can be to WRITE about them. So much to say, so little paper. I will give it a shot anyway…As I begin my attempt to discuss happenings during the year 2002 please remember that I will of course check with my wife before I print too many copies because she may want to cut some of…
Zack, (notice the new spelling, formally Zach, but 1st grade phonics has taught him that his name is spelled wrong) turned 7 years old this year and entered the first grade. He also began piano lessons this fall and thoroughly enjoys all types of music. (You can usually catch him singing a tune or two during each day.) This summer he played baseball and was in his second year of swim team. The highlight of baseball was when the team finished 3rd in the league tournament. In swim team, Zack finished in 1st place overall for his age division. If you visit our house, he will ask to show you his trophy.
Alex (still spelled the same) is now 3, but thinks he is 4. Alex is ready for Preschool and believes that it will begin the day after his 4th birthday. He has really grown over the past year, both physically and intellectually. He talks non-stop and follows his brother around religiously. He loves to visit other people’s houses, so if you are looking for an entertaining experience, invite him over.

Jody is in her 7th year of teaching in the Parkston School District. She is a 1st grade teacher and has really begun to enjoy her job. All of her current students and even her past students adore her. She is having her first student teacher coming in January and is excited for this new experience and to pass on some of her wisdom she has obtained over the past 7 years. I feel that the school district is lucky to have her. Jody has recently begun a hobby, Scrap Booking. She does a wonderful job with the pages she has made already and really looks forward to the time she gets to spend working on the memory books. She is working on Alex’s right now, and then she will work on Zach’s (whoops) Zack’s.
I, Mike, am in my 4th year at Farmers State Bank in Parkston as a Systems Administrator. This year was and exciting year for me because I went on a trip to Wisconsin with my father to research our family tree. On our trip, we verified an important discovery; we are related to a man that came over on the Mayflower in 1620, Stephen Hopkins. My father and I then joined the South Dakota Chapter of the Mayflower Society. Because of this discovery, it is my belief that I also came over on the Mayflower (think about it!!!)
Our family took a trip to the Black Hills this summer. We spent time with Jody’s family in a cabin deep in the hills. The area was beautiful and I believe that we would like to visit again in the near future. This fall we took Zack (got it right this time) to his first Vikings football game in Minneapolis. Both Zack and Dad wish that the Vikings were doing better this year.
I bet you are wondering about the “(This space reserved for next year)”. We have one last announcement; we are expecting our 3rd (and last, Mike says) child during the summer of 2003. The whole family is impatiently waiting for the new arrival.
We hope that this holiday season finds you enjoying life to it’s fullest. May God bless you and your family during this holiday season and throughout the New Year.
Mike, Jody, Zachary and Alexander
